- Introduction
- This EMBO Workshop will present frontier research on the molecular, cellular and functional aspects of cortical development and mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of disease. The development of the mammalian central nervous system (CNS) involves the timely production of neurons, precise coordination of their positioning within the growing brain tissue and subsequent integration to produce functional neural circuits. Failure in these early steps of CNS development can lead to neurological impairment, intellectual disability and epilepsy. This workshop will highlight recent insights into the fundamental mechanisms which underlie cortical development as well as disease related research. In addition, diverse systems and novel technological advances in molecular genetics and in vivo imaging that have led to recent breakthroughs in the field will be presented. The EMBO Workshop will bring together investigators at the cutting-edge of their field and will provide ample opportunities for discussion in informal settings and for junior scientists and graduate students to exchange ideas with leaders in the field. The programme will include abstracts that will be selected for short talks.
