- Introduction
- How does IKEA differ from other (Japanese) companies? From what I understand it differs a lot. We have a flat organization and we call each other by first name. Every employee has the same opportunities- the best example being a current CEO for IKEA global who started out as a part timer! Actually, here in Japan I have a lot of co-workers who have advanced their careers after starting as part timers. As for women, it is possible to manage both a career and a family life, and many women choose to come back to work after having babies. IKEA even offers paternity leave to male employees. One of the biggest differences is that it’s possible to have a great balance between private life and work. It is important to do a good job, but you can also take a vacation every now and then. We have an internal job application system where we can apply for different positions and locations in Japan. Employees can relocate if they wish to take on new challenges.
