A one-week seminar will be conducted at the Zwentendorf Nuclear Power Plant, Austria, that addresses the various safety assessment issues in the post Fukushima era. This seminar will provide a review of sequences of the accident, address lessons learned so far from the accident and review the important safety assessment issues necessary for safety decision making. The seminar will comprise of topical lectures, panel discussions and plant walkdowns that will address key aspects of safety assessment, safety management and accident management. Evaluation of impacts of extreme external and internal events on plant capability to carry out the fundamental safety functions of criticality control, heat removal and confinement of radioactive material will be elaborated upon. Additionally, Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) and the Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMGs) will be discussed. The Seminar focuses especially on the needs of nuclear utilities examining and assessing the safety of their facilities.
