The tenth session of the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification) will be held in Korea, and this is the first time an Asian country is hosting the event.

The world is currently experiencing many difficulties due to changes in the climate and accelerated desertification. Desertification is a phenomenon of land devastation in dry and semi-dry locations, and it reduces productivity of grains and increases poverty, and ultimately expands areas of uninhabitable barren land on the earth.

Most areas suffering from desertification are in developing countries. However, acceleration of desertification is due to indiscretion of resource consumption by the human race. Therefore, now is a time where all people need to act with responsibility for the one and only earth we live in.

Korea has experience turning dentuded forest lands from war and exploitation of resources back into green lands. The legendary success of creating green lands is already an experience developing countries most want to take after, together with the Korean Saemaul Movement. We aim to relay our methods of greenification to developing countries and endeavor together to prevent desertification of the earth.

The UNCCD this year will make desertification prevention in Asia, where the problem is growing worse each day, known to the world, and be a new turning point to establish a system of cooperation between countries to prevent desertification on an international level.
