  • Introduction
  • We invite you to join us in Adelaide in October for the Australian International Education Conference.  2011 marks the 25th anniversary of two significant events: the introduction of the full fee-paying international student program in Australia and the first Australian International Education Conference, now the third largest international education conference in the world.

This year’s conference is an opportunity to celebrate more than 60 years of educating international students in Australia. Australia is now a major global player in international education with almost two and a half million alumni world-wide.  It has become a world leader in international education through innovative promotion and marketing; pathway programs; offshore delivery of courses; teaching and learning; outbound mobility; strong quality assurance, student support and consumer protection arrangements; linkages with migration and employment, and an entrepreneurial business focus.

International education in Australia has also faced many challenges, particularly in recent years. The 25th anniversary provides the ideal opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved so far and to consider future directions and priorities.

This year’s conference will look back on the journey so far, reflect on the lessons learned, critically examine the current state of play, and build on the breakthroughs achieved in the landmark 2010 AIEC.

Looking ahead over the next 25 years, what vision might we have for Australia’s future international engagement? What should the future scale of the Australia’s education export industry be? What shape might Australia’s participation in international education take?  What might the role of government be?  What might the roles and responsibilities of ‘the industry’ be?

It is incumbent on us to look forward, to find answers to these questions, to envision Australia’s future engagement in international education at a global level over the next 25 year.  AIEC 2011 aims to do just that.

Come and join us for this critically important dialogue in Adelaide in October.
