- Introduction
- The School Social Work Association of Ghana (SSWAG) is a national membership organization that connects, informs and mobilizes professional social workers practicing in the education systems of Ghana. The decision to form the association came as a result of the need to bring together professional social workers practicing in various social work positions within the Ghana Education Service (i.e., Welfare, Special Education, Guidance and Counseling, and School Health Education). The purpose is to network and exchange ideas and information about best practices in the field. SSWAG aims at promoting and enhancing sound public policies and programmes to meet the needs of social work values, standards, ethics, and high quality professional development.VISIONThe vision of SSWAG is to serve its members by connecting them to information, ideas, quality resource and colleagues. SSWAG will offer opportunities for participation in continuing education events at national and international levels.MISSIONOur mission is to promote the development of social work in Ghana in order to enhance the full educational and human potential of all students and their families.OBJECTIVESIn order for the vision and mission o be fulfilled, SSWAG undertakes the following strategic objectives:
- To provide national leadership for school social workers.
- To promote unity and a sense of belongingness among members.
- To provide forums for discussions on important issues in the field and for dissemination current research findings.
- To offer opportunities for ongoing professional development.
- To respond to changing needs of school social workers.
- To provide opportunities for members to participate in programmes that will advance SSWAG’s agendas.
- To influence community and institutional changes via policies that will improve the lives of children and their families in Ghana.
- To network and form effective working relationships with and between individuals, agencies, communities, volunteers and other professionals.
- To sensitize communities to support school health interventions.
- To prepare social and development history on children with special needs
