Upon attending this series of lectures the attendee will: 

1) Appreciate the complexities of the physiology of pain

2) Apply physiologic principles to the other lectures in the series

3) Realize the significance of the pain experience in patients' lives

4) Be familiar with the various pharmacological classes and treatments involved in the treatment of acute and chronic pain

5) Apply knowledge of non-pharmacologic approaches to the treatment of pain

6) Comprehend and apply the risk screening when considering the use of scheduled medications

7) Build on the information presented in the lecture series to change practice behaviors when dealing with chronic pain patients
