  • Introduction  
  • KIM School of Management 3rd Annual International Conference on Industry and Higher Education is to be held on September, 28 - 30, 2011 in Nairobi.  The purpose of the annual international event in its third year running is to bring together higher education policy makers and labour market players in public, private and civil society organisations in EAC and beyond to discuss issues and seek answers on how to address the gap that exists between the Industry and higher education in the East African region in general and for Kenya in particular towards achieving the national 2030.

    One of the foundations for Kenya vision 2030 is Human Resource Development where Kenya intends to create a globally competitive and adaptive human resource base to meet the requirements of the rapidly industrializing economy. Among the steps to be taken to raise labour productivity to international levels is the enhancement of closer collaboration between industry and training institutions. Under education and training, Kenya needs to provide a globally competitive and relevant workforce for Kenya to cope with the needs of the ever dynamic, competitive and ICT compliant market. Innovation and innovative capacity of the players will be key to success of the country as a whole. Is Africa in general lagging behind in this, how can your work contribute towards achieving this ambition of creating and knowledge-based economy? And what are practical options can be available to public and private sector organisations?  This should be addressed through the following themes:

    • Entrepreneurship, Small Businesses and Human Resource Development
    • Alumni, Alma Mater and Creation of Centers of Excellency
    • ICT for Economic Growth in Africa
    • Movers of the Industry and Higher Education
    • Enforcing Quality Practices in Higher Education and Industry: The legal Framework
    • Communication Industry and Higher Education
    • Management, Leadership and Governance
    The KIM School of Management which is in its final stages of transformation to University status- Management University of Africa- aim is to contribute to enhancement of professional management and leadership practices in Kenya, EAC and beyond through: design and provision of relevant management education training programs; development of learning materials; conducting of research and dissemination of findings; and providing forums for sharing ideas and experiences.  The conference has borne a publication: Management Digest- A journal of the KIM School of Management- ISSN-2074-4730- Currently in its 3rd Volume (2011).
