- Bell pepper is also known as sweet pepper or a pepper and capsicum. It comes in a wide array of vivid colors ranging from green, red, yellow, orange, purple, brown to black. Bell peppers are not 'hot'. The primary substance that controls "hotness" in peppers is called capsaicin, and it's found in very small amounts in bell peppers. Bell pepper is eaten raw or cooked. Bell peppers offer a number of nutritional values. They are excellent sources of vitamin C and vitamin A, vitamin B6, folic acid, beta-carotene, and fiber.
