- What is Vitamin D
- Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that maintains the body’s levels of calcium within a normal range, working together with parathyroid hormone and calcitonin. Vitamin D is found in only a few foods, with fatty fish and fish oils, liver, meat and eggs being the main natural sources and is produced in the skin. A vitamin D deficiency leads to weakened bones and rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.
